If you live in an apartment, every square foot matters — and your cat's litter box shouldn't be the thing eating up your bathroom or laundry closet.
What actually matters in a small space
Footprint first. Measure the spot before you shop. A semi-enclosed box with a smaller base (around 40x29cm) fits corners and closets that a standard open pan can't.
Odor control matters more, not less. Small spaces trap smell. A semi-enclosed design with a lid helps contain it between cleanings.
Easy to lift and empty. In a small kitchen or bathroom, you need to be able to pick the box up one-handed to dump it — look for a lightweight, removable design.
Multi-cat households
If you have more than one cat, the rule of thumb is one box per cat, plus one extra. In an apartment that's tight, so look for stackable or slim-profile boxes that don't all need to sit in the same room.
What to avoid
Skip anything advertised as "large capacity" unless you've actually measured your space — bigger isn't better if it doesn't fit where you need it.
